Business Issue - One of today’s key business challenges is keeping people focused, motivated, and productive during periods of organizational change. Change and the uncertainty it brings always stresses an organization and its people’s ability to perform at peak levels. When change becomes reality, it is critical for managers to have the skills and tools necessary to coach their staff on how to handle it effectively, and transition more swiftly toward the specific organizational change.
Omega Performance’s Solution - Coaching Through Change—a one-day interactive session—equips managers with the tools to identify the state of readiness of each of their direct reports relative to a specific change in the organization. It helps managers coach individuals through the process of self awareness and to create a willingness to move to higher levels of commitment and action toward an organizational or team change. The skills and tools introduced and applied in the session provide participants with increased confidence in their own personal change resilience and their ability to help the organization achieve the related business results.
What Is Included
Six learning activities are covered during Coaching Through Change:
- Understanding the interplay between the Change Spectrum and the Change Process.
- Reviewing a demonstration of how to use Omega Performance’s Coaching Model with direct reports to coach them through a specific change.
- Developing powerful questioning strategies that align coaching with the Change Process: create self awareness, evaluate priorities, raise level of commitment, and take action.
- Use appropriate action planning to mobilize people to act toward change commitment.
- Practicing coaching direct reports through different stages of change readiness. Individual skill practice occurs in small groups with a skill practice coach and is either videotaped or observed live. Balanced feedback is provided to each participant.
- Building action plans for coaching key direct reports to help them through the change.
There is a follow-up to the Coaching Through Change workshop in which participants conduct actual coaching sessions with each of their direct reports. During the sessions, participants use the models and tools from the session within the first 30 days and again 30 days later to assess each direct report’s progress in moving toward commitment. Omega Performance can provide coach-the-coach support during the follow-up.
Delivery Options
Navigating Through Change is delivered via a one-day session by an Omega Performance senior facilitator and certified skill practice coaches to assist in guiding the afternoon skill practices. The skill practice coaches can be the organization’s internal coaches or additional Omega facilitators.

- Promoting ownership
- Develop an action plan for actual individuals with the appropriate change state strategies
Who Should Be Trained
Coaching Through Change is recommended for all managers within the organization with direct reports.
Prerequisites
Participants should have completed Omega Performance’s Navigating Through Change workshop. Other training in coaching and interpersonal skills such as listening and questioning is also highly recommended. There is also pre-work for the participants’ managers and the participants’ direct reports. Ideally, the participants’ managers would have previously attended Coaching Through Change, and modeled the behaviors during a coaching session to impact the participants’ current state relative to a specific organizational change. The participants’ direct reports would have completed Omega Performance’s online Change Readiness Assessment.
